Jr. Oracle DBA

Xora is seeking a Junior Oracle DBA who is up for the challenge of working in a fast paced startup environment. This individual will assist the lead DBA in the maintainance, upgrades and management of production and development environments, with an emphasis on the production environment. This person will learn how to maintain database performance, integrity and quality of the databases across multiple platforms.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist in monitoring all aspects of both database and system (OS) performance metrics.
Assist in troubleshoot production issues and bring issues to resolution quickly.
Develop PL/SQL and Unix shell scripts using good coding practices.
Contribute to creating and improving DBA policies, procedures, and standards.
Assist in tuning of the database structures and OS environment to maintain peek performance.
Work with the development team to tune SQL queries and stored procedures/functions as required.
Help define and implement, on a continual basis, best practices for securing the Unix and Oracle environments.
Assist in evaluating and selecting DBA and developer tools, OS and DB performance tools, system monitoring, auditing and automation tools.
Participate in a rotated on-call duty.

Required Experience and Skills:

1+ years Oracle Database Administration/database programming.
1+ years of experience working with Unix/Linux and the ability to understand and write Unix shell scripts.
1+ years experience programming PL/SQL (Stored Procedures, Triggers, Procedures and Functions).
Oracle OCP Certifications in 8i or greater required, multiple certifications a plus
A degree in computer science or a related field.
Applied knowledge of Oracle tools such as: STATSPACK, import/export, explain plan, SQL*Loader and OEM.
Working knowledge of Oracle internals (V$ views, latches, system waits, resource allocation, data dictionary, table and index storage and access parameters).
Ability to apply Oracle patches.
Ability to work through a problem logically and identify root cause.
Firm understanding of storage concepts and RAID technologies.
Understanding of Oracle backup/recovery/availability methods (RMAN/ Dataguard/RAC).
Experience managing multiple database environments on multiple servers.
Experience working in a production 24x7 ASP environment a plus.
Understanding of Oracle partitioning and management a plus.
Must work well independently while simultaneously being a strong team player.
Must be detail and process oriented.
Willing to learn new technologies, document and share information.
Able to work with individuals with varying skill sets and levels.
